Searching For The Best Rated Web Hosting? A Simple Guide To Follow!

Putting a website online is getting a lot easier these days. It used to be only the "super-nerds" like me that could get a website up and running, but nowadays all sorts of people and businesses have a website. If you are looking at getting a site up on the world wide web, you are going to want to find the best rated web hosting to make sure your website is in good hands.

A web host is the company that "stores" your website and makes it accessible to the world. The host will provide you with space on their servers - this is where all your website files and information are kept. When people go visit your site, they are communicating with the servers where this information is kept.

Web hosting used to VERY expensive. There wasn't a lot of competition and yearly packages could cost you well over a thousand dollars depending on the features you were looking for.

Nowadays you can get the best rated web hosting at an extremely affordable price. The industry is ram packed with competition which has made me one very happy nerd! You can host a website for an entire year for well under a $100. It's pretty amazing.

Here are a few of the things to look for in a host. FYI, all the reviewed companies at my site includes these features so you are safe with anyone of them, but if you are looking elsewhere pay attention to these things:

1) Storage Space and Bandwidth(data transfer) amounts

Your plan will give you a certain amount of storage space - this is how much room you have on their servers to host files, data etc. Bandwidth is the amount of data that visitors to your website access. As an example, if you have 1000 visitors that each view 1 mb of information, you have used 1gb of bandwidth.

The average site typically doesn't use anymore than 1gb of storage and 10 gb of bandwidth. Now if you are hosting some large video or music files, your numbers will be higher, but the best rated web hosting companies give you so much storage and bandwidth that you will never have to worry. Do pay attention to these figures though, as their are still companies that severely limit you in these areas (and add extra fees when you go over).

2) Domain Registration - Do you get one for free?

The domain is your web address. So for my site, I had to go register thehostingnerd.com - I now own that domain name. You can buy domains for around $10 these days, but many hosting companies will give you a free domain name when you signup with them. It's a nice bonus and easy to get so keep an eye for this!

3) Add-on Domains

Add-on domains let you host multiple websites all from the same account. So for example, if I own the domain names domainone.com, domaintwo.com and domainthree.com - I could have them all up on the internet but only have to buy one hosting account.

In the past, you used to be only allowed one domain per hosting account. Nowadays more and more hosting companies offer the ability to host multiple domains. In fact all the hosting companies I rank the highest at my site offer at least 8 domains in total. Perfect for nerds like me! (or anyone who wants to save some cash)

4) Reliability and Customer Support

This is a big one. After all, if you have any problems, you want to be able to talk to someone. What are there support hours? Do they offer telephone and email support? Is the technology they own up to par to make sure your website doesn't go down? These are a few questions to ask yourself (and them!).

Also, look at their "uptime" guarantee. I only use hosts that guarantee 99.99% uptime - this means your website will never (well, hardly ever) experience any downtime.

Also look to see what kind of help guides and tutorials they offer at their website. Many have videos tutorials setup so that you can learn about everything from setting up your email accounts to setting up a SQL database etc.

The industry is so competitive that the best rated web hosting companies are those that offer the most features at the best price while still maintaining a strong level of customer service. Have a look at my website - in all my nerdyness I put it together by testing out a bunch of hosting companies, reading reviews etc. and ranked the best ones for you. Hope it helps!

Happy surfing!
